I’m often asked why I’m such a big fan of meal replacement shakes for weight loss and why I don’t promote other diets like Atkins, Paleo, or the Zone so much. The reason is simple: in my experience and the experience of MANY days to fitness readers, meal replacement shakes work!
Some people are happy to leave it at that, but others want a little more information – which I’m glad to provide you with in this article.
1. They are super-easy to use
Meal replacement shakes are so simple that you don’t really need to think too hard about your diet once you start using them. Choose a type of shake you like, either commercial or homemade, and then replace one or two meals a day and watch the weight drop off. No calorie counting, no weighing or measuring, and no special diet meals to make – just have a shake or two instead of your usual meals.
2. They are healthy
Meal replacement shakes are loaded with useful nutrients such as fiber, protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals. In fact, you’d be hard pressed to get all these things into a regular solid food meal. If you look at the nutritional profile of most shakes, you’ll quickly see that they contain a large percentage of your recommended daily allowance of a variety of vitamins and minerals but without the calories.
3. You can take them wherever you go
With meal replacements, you have no excuse for breaking your diet because you can take them with you wherever you go. In a hurry? Don’t have time to prepare a healthy, diet-friendly meal? No problem! You can whip up a meal replacement shake in 60-seconds or less. The fewer excuses you have to break your diet, the easier it will be to stick to it. Meal replacement shakes make things easy on your willpower.
4. Meal replacement shake diets are very flexible
With meal replacement shakes, you are the boss. It’s up to you how many meals you replace a day, and you can decide which meals you choose to switch. My personal preference is to have a meal replacement shake for breakfast, but you might prefer to replace your lunch instead. If you have a lot of weight to lose or want to lose weight faster, you might replace two meals per day whereas, if you only have a little weight to lose or aren’t in a hurry, once meal replacement should do the job for you.
5. They are tasty
Ok, so this IS subjective, but if you buy a good one, you should find that your meal replacement shake is delicious and that you look forward to drinking it. I mean, how often do you crave something sweet or chocolatey on a diet and know you can’t have it? With meal replacement shakes, chocolate, strawberry, pineapple crush, and even banana splits are all available albeit in a healthy, nutritious shake.
