The thought of a challenging workout is one anyone bored with a routine is hoping to find. The exercise world is turning to shorter intense workouts, which have become popular in the last few years. For those who have a little time in their day these shorter, but intense workouts are often the best choices. For beginners or those who enjoy a longer session of working their muscles a challenge is a program with some flexibility, and variety. Both of these methods can help someone reach a fitness goal, and neither has to involve taking too much time away from a hectic schedule.
Gym Time Wasters
Twenty minutes to or an hour isn’t too much time for most to accommodate, but visits to the gym often take much longer. First, you have to go home and change into workout clothes, drive or take some transportation to the gym, and then possibly wait for several minutes or more waiting for a class to begin or for equipment to be free. For those who want to socialize this can be a good time to connect with other people, but for many who are in a quiet morning mood, or tired of talking after a long day a work this just equals more pressure, or time wasted.
Many also report having to check in out of locker rooms to store their keys, purses or wallets. Others complain about having to carry an access card, or find parking. The time wasters in gym are numerous and can deter those who need to get down to business quickly.
Wasted Classes
Another issue that many have with signing up for a gym membership is a lack of control regarding classes or exercises performed during a class. Many gyms schedule beginning classes at prime times just before or after work. This leaves those who want a tougher session either going to a class at an inconvenient time, or having to miss out entirely on a something more invigorating, productive or motivating.
Cost Per Result
For some visiting the gym simply isn’t cost effective. The results aren’t want they hoped, or they find much of their time is spent on the frustration of trying to get what they want rather than actually sweating away pounds or building muscle in an actual. The hassles of visiting the gym eventually drive away even those who are ambitious about their fitness goals. You might have to make a switch in order to find a method that offers you the best in both a good fitness option, and the best bargain that allows you to accomplish your goals.
Working Out at Home
One option is the home gym, or buying individual pieces of equipment. This will require some dedicated space, and for the larger pieces of equipment especially for those capable of performing several routines you can expect to pay almost as much as yearly membership at a gym. Naturally, the benefit here is once purchased there is no need to pay a monthly fee at the gym. The downside is again there will need to be space for the various pieces of equipment, and usually these offer a rather monotonous time spent exercising.
Working Out a Home with DVD Sessions
The benefit to a DVD used at home is these are far less costly to buy than equipment or the membership at a gym. This is also the best way to have variety and with many DVD sets have a number of different sets and programs, which can target certain areas such as the abs, legs, chest, or arms. Instead of trying to find a class that fits your schedule, you can have a session at any time, covering exactly the areas you want to work on at any given time.
What to Expect from DVD’s?
The one thing most people worry about in switching from a gym membership to a home DVD method is not having the same expert. The interesting point you will find in looking at video selections is from popular names such as 21 Day Fix, P90X, Flabs 2 Abs,FocusT25, Insanity, Brazil Butt Lift, or Zumba Fitness Exhilarate is you do find the plan is coming from a fitness pro. With a video it’s possible to rewind, freeze, or repeat a portion, which is a feature not available in a fast pace live class where you must keep up with the group as best you can. While there is no camaraderie as you would find in a typically class, there’s also no distraction to keep you from focusing on performing each exercise exactly as it should be performed.
The typically cost of buying the popular workout programs for the home is between $120 to $60, but usually this price should be looked at carefully. Often the larger price tag demonstrates a number DVD’s per package. A six to nine disc set will provide enough variety, and motivation to last for a long time.

I’m starting this with my daughter imm55 but I have bad knees back n I’m not sure what to do for exercis
Hi Billie,
Thanks for your comment. I can’t really give you an opinion on that matter. I suggest you to talk to your doctor for a professional opinion.
I have been doing the same exercise for approximately 2 years. The exercises I do is because I am handicapped and don’t have full use of my arms, almost paraplegic, although I can’t reach above my head due to a motorcycle accident in 1985, I have through compensation functioned adequately. At that time I sustained a complete evolution of C4, stretch of C5, strain of C6, causing the loss of feeling and a shoulder fusion in my left arm. My right shoulder became frozen depleting reaching above approximately 30 degrees from my side. I have been doing Squats , Toe Touches, Shrugs, Calf Raises (left, right, forward), Twists, Standing Knee Raises, and Quad Lifts. Even though I rearrange the order it seems as though I have reached a plateau with no signs of improvement. Even gained a little weight, about 20 pounds, even though I try and eat a balanced diet. If you have any suggestions as to any exercises to add to my routine, please drop me a line, it is very hard getting off the floor with only the use of 1 arm (and that at half strength). Also a large concern is the problem of unbalancing causing spinal abnormalities.
Thank You
Robert F. Thomas
