Fruit juice might seem like a healthy way to start your day, but often it’s not. Most commercially-produced fruit juices are made from concentrate. That means that they are processed, a lot of water is removed, and then it’s reconstituted weeks or even months later. Most juices are also exposed to high temperatures. That so-called fresh juice isn’t so fresh after all!
All that processing means that your store-bought juice will have lost most of its vitamins, and also increases the sugar content. In many ways, commercially-made fruit juices are not much better than soda, and you wouldn’t have that for breakfast, would you?!
Still, juice IS a nice way to start the day, so why not buy a quality juicing machine and make your own. That way you can make sure that the juice you are drinking is as healthy as possible. Not sure where to start? Here’s an easy, great-tasting juice recipe to try.
Prep time: 5 minutes
Cooking time: N/A
Servings: 1
Ingredients
- 2 medium beets
- 1 medium cucumber
- 1 inch of fresh ginger
- 1 medium lemon
Instructions
Wash all the ingredients in warm, soapy water to remove any dirt or chemical residues. Rinse well afterward. Do this even if you have bought organic ingredients.
Place all the ingredients in your juicer and then operate it according to the manufacturer’s instructions. If preferred, chill for 30-60 minutes before drinking. You could also make this juice the night before you mean to drink it.
