Deli sandwiches are ideal for lunch but all too many places slather on fattening ingredients that may undo all of your weight loss efforts. I think this recipe is every bit as tasty as a store-bought deli sandwich but weighs in with less than half the calories and virtually none of the sugar. Maybe not the best choice for a workplace lunch (although you could eat it cold of course), this is a great light lunch at the weekend. I often make this sandwich the night before, wrap it in aluminum foil and then take it with me the following day for a great lunch on the go.
Update: Looking for no sugar cookbook ? Ingredients – 1 Serving
6 oz./170 grams sliced low-fat Swiss cheese
4 oz./110 grams sliced deli ham
4 oz./110 grams sliced deli chicken breast
1 small, whole wheat panini – split in half
½ cup low sugar marinara sauce, heated
Method
Heat a lightly oiled grill or panini press to medium heat (or use a grill pan). Layer the cheese, ham, and chicken, starting and ending with cheese, in your panini.
Close the sandwich and grill, flipping and pressing it with spatula if necessary, until golden brown on both sides and cheese is melted. This normally takes around five minutes.
Halve the sandwich and serve with marinara sauce for dipping with a small, green, side salad to pump up your veggie intake. If you cannot get sugar-free marinara sauce, omit this ingredient and use pesto instead for an equally tasty but sugar-free alternative.
