Breakfast is said to be the most important meal of the day and yet most breakfast foods are junk. Cereal? Junk! Waffles? Junk! Pastries? Junk! And what about oatmeal? While I like it, I don’t always have the time to make it or the appetite to eat a big bowl of heavy oatmeal first thing in the morning. It’s no wonder then that so many people either choose not to eat breakfast or can’t find time to have this most important meal. And if your breakfast tastes like dessert, you know it’s not good for you!
Rather than just skip breakfast or chow down on junk, I make myself a delicious, easy, quick smoothie and my new favorite is called the Acai Berry Antioxidant Breakfast Blast!
This simple smoothie is packed with good nutrition including antioxidants that are good for everything from your heart to your skin, fiber to keep your digestive system in good order, vitamins and minerals which are essential for health, protein for muscles, and healthy fat for energy and to keep you feeling full. It has all a body needs to survive until lunchtime. And best of all, to make this nutritional powerhouse, all you need is a blender and about three minutes of time.
It is, of course the acai berry juice that is the magic secret ingredient in this smoothie. Acai berry juice is one of the best superfoods around and complements perfectly all the other ingredients. The chai seeds and flax seeds provide a good source of fiber and healthy fats which the dark cherries give this smoothie a refreshing, slightly tangy, taste. It’s a great way to wake up your taste buds in the morning!

Ingredients:
1 cup acai berry juice – no added sugar
1 cup low fat milk e.g. 1% fat
1 tablespoon chai seeds
1 tablespoon flaxseeds
½ cup blueberries – frozen
½ cup dark cherries – frozen
2-3 ice cubes
Method:
Pour the milk and the acai juice into your blender jug and then add all the other ingredients. Blend on low for 30 seconds and then on high for 30 seconds, the blender I use and my recommendations here. The mixture should be smoothie and free from lumps. Serve immediately or put in a thermos and enjoy later.
