Protein is an essential nutrient for people who exercise and for those trying to lose weight. Protein contains amino acids which are the building blocks of muscle. If you don’t have enough protein, you won’t have enough amino acids and, as a result, you muscles won’t have what they need to grow and repair after exercise.
Protein is also an essential nutrient for people trying to lose weight. Protein helps fill you up, prevents muscle loss during a diet and also boosts your metabolism – protein has what is called a high thermal effect which simply means digesting protein uses a lot of energy and that energy inevitably comes from fat.
So, what is the best time to have a protein shake? Good question! In general, the best time to take your protein shake is before and after exercise – that way your body will have all the nutrients it needs to get you through your workouts and then start the repair and recovery process straight after. That’s my protein shake recommendation – before and immediately after exercise. Protein shakes also make for great dinners to help make you feel full up while you sleep.
