This chicken dish comes from the Moroccan city of Marrakesh, which is a real hot-pot of culinary delights. Moroccan food is known for being tasty and healthy and often based around chicken. The world-famous tagine cooking pot comes from this region, and many of the spices we take for granted in America came originally from Morocco too.
This recipe contains some amazing spices that you can get in your supermarket easily enough. Blended together they transform plain old chicken into something special.
High in protein and fiber but low in fat, this recipe is not just tasty, it’s good for you too. I know you’ll enjoy it as much as I do!

Serves: 6 persons
Preparation time: 30 minutes
Cooking time: 8 hours
Ingredients
- 1 medium onion, halves and sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, crushed
- 3 large carrots, chopped
- 3 medium sweet potatoes, washed and diced
- 15 oz. cannellini beans
- 15 oz. great northern beans, canned
- 2 lb. chicken breast, boned, skinned, and diced
- ½ teaspoon cumin seeds
- ½ teaspoon ground turmeric
- ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
- 30 oz. Diced Tomatoes-no Salt Added
Method
Cut the chicken into 2 to 3 inch pieces and brown in a frying pan with a little oil.
Next, combine all the ingredients including the chicken in a pre-heated slow cooker. Cover and cook on Low for 8 hours or High for 4.
