Save Money and Enjoy Tender Meats

Healthy cooking can sometimes seem like an expensive undertaking. And then, after spending extra money, your meal may still come out tasting, well, not very tasty! It’s no wonder that so many people say they cannot afford to eat healthily or that they don’t like the taste of healthy food.

And then, if you DO find a recipe you like and can afford, invariably, it is hard to make and takes so much time that the only time you can make it at the weekend.

Luckily, there is a solution to not one, not two, but all three of these problems – slow cooking.

Using a slow cooker it is incredibly easy to prepare delicious, healthy meals. Check my quick start guide to prepare your first slow cooking recipe here. You just toss your chopped ingredients into the cooker, add some stock and seasoning, and then turn it on and leave it for 4-8 hours. No stirring is required – you can just leave the slow cooker to work its magic.

Then, when the timer goes “ping” you’ve got a great-tasting meal that took you no more than a few minutes to prepare.

But, as well as being healthy and easy, slow cookers can save you money. For a start, slow cooker leftovers are perfect for eating the next day. Or you can freeze them and then thaw and reheat them whenever you want another healthy meal. A few ingredients can go a very long way when you use a slow cooker.

And then there’s the meat. Meat is often expensive – especially when you are trying to eat healthily. With no added sauces, if you don’t buy the best cuts of meat, you can end up with food that is too tough to chew. Not so with slow cooking.

The long cooking process, combined with the low heat, breaks down and tenderizes even the toughest cuts of beef and pork. In fact, the tougher the meat is at the start of the cooking process, the better tasting and more tender it’ll be at the end.

Slow cooking is so effective for tenderizing meat, I am convinced that you could cook and eat old shoe leather is you really wanted too!

Beef short ribs, shoulder pork, chicken thighs, lamb shanks – all these less expensive meat cuts are not only money savers, but they also come out tasting great in a slow cooker.

To help you save money and get the best cuts of meat for your slow cooker, I have written two articles to guide you. In the first one, Save Money – The Best Pork cuts for slow cooking. I reveal that pork is healthier than you might think and can be bought very cheaply if you know what you are looking for. In Save Money – The Best Beef cuts for slow cooking, I guide you through buying the best cuts of what is most people’s favorite meat.

So, slow cooking can help you make easy, delicious, and healthy means while saving money too. I love slow cooking and, for reasons like that, I’m sure you will too!
